About White Buffalo

One of the rarest sights to see in the cannabis scene, White Buffalo’s named was inspired by the cultures of the Great Plains region. You see, the white buffalo is a rare and deeply important spiritual symbol of the indigenous cultures in this area, and, inspired by this rarity and reverence, breeders decided to name this uncommon strain after the mighty White Buffalo.

Also known as Tatanka, the White Buffalo strain is the child of the indica-dominant Romulan and an unnamed cross between Bay 11 and Blackberry Kush. With such a legendary lineage, it’s no wonder this mystical strain has gained such unbridled popularity— so much in fact that it obtained 3rd place as best sativa at Hempcon Cup San Francisco in 2015.

This highly potent, fast-acting sativa-dominant strain isn't for the weak of heart, but if you dare step into its majestic realm, you’ll never want to leave again!

White Buffalo Strain Effects

White Buffalo jolts users up with a quick headrush— some users report feeling increased circulation in the face, particularly around the eyes and temples. As your brain begins to acclimate to the high, you may find that your sense of perception is much sharper, and ordinary stimuli or common thoughts might take a whole new significance.

You’ll dive into a freely-associative, cerebral mindset, and in a positive setting, this thought stimulation can be accompanied with surges of euphoric energy. This, along with the strain’s lucidity, makes it a great partner to mundane daily tasks like doing chores or brainstorming ideas. It can also make you pretty chatty and social, giving you a little boost at parties or other events.

Even though some users do report an increased physical relaxation as the White Buffalo high wears on, this strain is highly unlikely to leave you couchlocked. In fact, Tatanka is not recommended for nighttime use, but rather for waking and baking or for use in the afternoon. This stuff will keep you wired, alert, awake.

White Buffalo users may feel the following effects taking over throughout the high:

  • Energetic
  • Uplifted
  • Focused
  • Happy
  • Relaxed
  • Giggly
  • Sociable

Tatanka can be an awesome strain to reach for when you need what is essentially a shot of espresso in one puff, but let us warn you now: you can't mess around with the White Buffalo. A highly potent strain, it hits you like a ton of bricks right away. The cerebral euphoria will come faster than you can say “cerebral euphoria,” and if you’re a cannabis newbie, you most certainly want to pace yourself.

Because it’s so strong, White Buffalo has been known to cause anxiety and paranoia in some users, especially when they get brave and overindulge. Additionally, it may also cause some of the discomforts associated with most cannabis strains, such as dry eyes or dry mouth.

The most important thing to remember about the White Buffalo strain is that you do not want to get trampled by its strength. Harder to find than a four leaf clover, this strain is elusive and deeply heavy, so be sure to take it easy and pace yourself.

White Buffalo Strain Benefits

White Buffalo’s strong mental effects may also have some medical applications. Patients with mild cases of stress or depression might be able to channel the strain’s emotional uplift into temporary relief, and some users with attention deficit disorders have reported that the strain’s strong cerebral high helps them concentrate on single tasks.

The White Buffalo strain may also have anti-inflammatory properties, making it an effective analgesic for mild pains or headaches.

All in all, White Buffalo may help with:

  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Inflammation
  • Pain
  • Headache

But we really can't stress this enough: if you’re prone to paranoia or anxiety, be extremely careful with this strain. It’ll make your thoughts race in such a disorienting manner, that if milder strains have caused you anguish, the White Buffalo strain’s probably not for you.

That’s not to say, of course that you can't try it at all. Just remember to use caution and heavy discretion when indulging in this cannabis behemoth!

White Buffalo Strain Flavor - The Genetics & Terpenes

Mostly visually unremarkable, this strain is the definition of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Its flowers are commonly small and cluster together in a popcorn-like manner, and buds have the solid and dense structure typical of indica stains. White Buffalo births dark green leave with few eye-catching orange pistils. Seemingly normal, this strain is just waiting to get lit to get its user very, very lit.

One aspect where White Buffalo stands out, however, is its resin production. The strain is coated with a layer of white trichomes that give it a soft sheen, and mo’ trichomes means mo’ buzz. The resin also gives the flowers a sticky texture, making it difficult to break up by hand.

White Buffalo buds tend to smell musky and sour, with some hints of berry passed on from its Blackberry Kush grandparent. Once broken open, the buds yield a woodsy, piney scent, and when combusted, its smoke is harsh and may send users into a fit of coughing. On the exhale, it tastes earthy and herbal.

White Buffalo’s aromas, flavors, and effects all come from the strain’s terpene profile. Present in almost every plant on earth, terpenes are organic molecules that dictate how plants smell. Evolutionarily, they ward off predators and attract pollinators, but they also have many effects. Linalool, for example, gives lavender the plant’s aromatherapeutic effects and scents, while limonene is majorly found in citrus fruit peels.

In cannabis, however, terpenes play a much more important role than just giving each strain its set of smells and benefits. They play a pivotal part in the development of the entourage effect, which happens when cannabinoids and other cannabis compounds, including terpenes, interact with one another to enhance each other’s effects.

The most common terpenes found in White Buffalo include:

  • Ocimene
  • Terpineol
  • Bisabolol
  • Caryophyllene
  • Linalool

Terpenes may give White Buffalo its smells, tastes, and effects, but it’s the strain’s THC content that makes it a dangerously strong strain that even seasoned stoners must tread lightly. Averaging between 19.33-23%, the strain’s THC content makes it a sought-after, elusive find in the cannabis world. But THC isn't the only cannabinoid in White Buffalo. The strain contains a plethora of cannabinoids, albeit at much lesser percentages than THC’s gargantuan score:

CBD

0.63 - 0.86%

CBC

0.31 - 1.49%

CBG

0.42 - 1.92%

CBN

0.12 - 0.2%

THCV

0.23 - 1.95%

Similar Strains Available

If you love White Buffalo but are feeling a little exploratory— or just don't want to deal with Tatanka’s intensity— we’ve got a couple other strains lined up we think you’ll enjoy.

A grandparent to White Buffalo, Blackberry Kush is an indica-dominant strain with moderately strong THC contents, but not nearly as high as its grandchild’s. Paranoia is much less frequently reported with this strain, and it tends to make users happy and euphoric, minus White Buffalo’s energy boosts. As opposed to White Buffalo, this strain is great for sleep!

With a layer of frosty trichomes similar to Tatanka, White Widow is another great, milder strain. With a THC content of around 16%, this strain has enough buzz to get you feeling good but not enough to send you over the edge. Although it’s an indica-dominant strain good for rest and relaxation, its underlying sativa genetics can also make it energizing in the right circumstances.

Information Regarding Growing White Buffalo

White Buffalo seeds aren't available online— if you see retailers selling such seeds, don't trust them. Instead, growers should rely on clippings of mature plants to grow as genetically identical clones. Other than that, the strain requires some work to grow, but not too much, and thanks to huge user interest, the strain has certainly called the attention of growers around the world.

The plant can be grown outdoors and indoors, but if grown outside, White Buffalo needs a Mediterranean-like climate. Indoor growers need to keep a close eye on plants of this strain, as they can reach heights of over 6 feet. They need to be trimmed and pruned, preferably in the early, vegetative stages, to fit smaller spaces. Additionally, indoor growers must make sure the plant has a hydroponics system.

Indoors, the plant is ready for harvest within 9-10 weeks, while outdoor growers should expect harvest in October. Depending on the phenotype, White Buffalo offers a medium to high yield.

Summary

Elusive, mysterious, and highly sought-after, the White Buffalo strain is a popularly potent strain known for its cerebral high. The White Buffalo strain is your friend when you need a focusing, energizing boost, whether to complete daily tasks or for socializing with friends, but if you’re looking for a calming, restful strain, it ain’t your guy. If you’re brave enough, White Buffalo can show you a good time!
